Laboratory Services

The St. James Mercy Health Laboratory consists of a group of individual departments working as one to meet all of the diverse needs of our patients in a manner that is consistent with our Mission Statement. Although each department has unique and individual functions, they work together providing physicians with accurate, reliable data to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of our patients.
Our Laboratory staff combines a multitude of experience with the latest technology to insure the highest quality possible in the shortest amount of time. Our laboratory is accredited by three separate agencies:
These agencies continuously inspect and survey our laboratory to guarantee our laboratory methods are reliable and our laboratory staff is proficient so that all patient results reliable.
At St. James Mercy Laboratory, we are constantly evolving to provide the best possible service to the patient. Our Inpatient Laboratory service is one of the best providing twenty-four hour coverage seven days a week. Our Pathologist is readily available to physicians for consults to interpret or discuss laboratory results at any time.
St. James Hospital Laboratory is open Monday through Friday, 7AM to 8PM and 7:30AM to 3:30PM on weekends and can be reached at (607)324-8000
We also provide onsite specimen collection at two long-term care facilities in Hornell, as well as scheduled home-collections three mornings per week for patients who are physically unable to travel to our collection sites.
As another service to our community, we provide private companies with certified breath alcohol and urine drug screening collections. All collectors are certified in the collection of urine drug screens and measuring of breath alcohol. Companies can call to schedule appointments at (607) 324-8088.
St. James Mercy Laboratory also provides patients with Autologous Blood Donation Collection. This is a service where patients scheduled for elective surgery at St. James Mercy Health can donate their own blood, which will be stored and transfused to them if needed during that elective surgery procedure. Most local facilities require the patient to travel to Rochester for this collection.
