Wellness Council of the Southern Tier
Who are we?
The Wellness Council of the Southern Tier, under the lead agency of St. James Mercy Health, is comprised of two New York State Department of Health grant initiatives designed to improve the health of residents in Allegany, Steuben, and Schuyler counties. Our mission is to build communities that promote and support wellness. Through an intensive community outreach program we provide nutritional and physical activity educational programs and activities for the whole person across the lifespan. We also provide education and/or referral services for cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, and heart disease prevention, and specific screenings for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer.
What are our hours?
Office Hours are Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 4:30pm.
What services are available?
Screenings - The Wellness Council of the Southern Tier offers low or no cost pap tests and mammograms from participating providers, as well as colorectal cancer screening kits. These services are available for those who qualify, based on insurance coverage and income levels, and are provided at low or no cost.
Education - Speakers are available on a variety of health topics and regularly present at clubs, schools, and community events.
Program Support - Materials and ongoing support are available for community agencies and businesses to help improve the health of the community.

The Almond House
Who are we?
The Almond House, a service of St. James Mercy Health, low-income transitional housing program designed and committed to helping single mothers grow into healthy self-directed individuals who are nurturing parents and economically self-sufficient. A nine-unit apartment style complex located in Almond, NY, the Almond House provides a supportive environment where women work with caseworkers to set and meet goals. Potential residents are referred to the Almond House from community agencies and organizations.
What are our hours?
Interested parties can reach the Almond House staff at their St. James Mercy Health office Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 4:30pm or at the Almond House on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1:00pm - 4:30pm.
What services are available?
Residents receive services provided by supporting community agencies in the following areas:
Parenting skills
Budgeting classes
Independent living skills
GED studies
Domestic Violence Counseling
Nutrition and Health Counseling
Job training
